What is Bloom in the Rain?

Hi there! I’m Kimmi.

I am a postpartum doula, and trauma coach.

I became a postpartum doula in 2018. When I was pregnant with my oldest kiddo I worked in a baby boutique that was owned and operated by doulas. Being surrounded by all of that supportive energy really inspired me to become that source of support for others. The mental health aspect of supporting postpartum families was something that especially appealed to me, since I personally had struggled with postpartum mood and anxiety disorders with both of my pregnancies, and then prenatal mood disorders with my second pregnancy. Having had these experiences, supporting others through the intensity of postpartum was something near and dear to my heart. I wanted my postpartum support to be well-rounded, so in 2023 I decided to become a trauma coach, to further support those who are in their postpartum journeys with trauma either from birth or postpartum. I wanted to help people take care of themselves and their mental health while caring for a baby.

My approach to postpartum doula work is an understanding that every family is going to have unique needs, and it is my job to meet each family where they’re at. My goal is to help each family get to a point of not needing me.

Birth and postpartum can bring forth a number of new emotions and experiences, and in all of those experiences it’s not uncommon for trauma to be a result. Birth trauma can play a part in causing postpartum mood and anxiety disorders (PMADS), with an understanding that hormones also play a HUGE part in them as well. If you are noticing you are quicker to cry, feeling anxious, feeling angry, or having vivid flashbacks, these *could* be symptoms of birth trauma. This is hard to manage while taking care of a new person.

I established Bloom in the Rain with the idea that I might help people flourish and feel better during those “rainy” postpartum days, or even beyond.

I have 2 kids and an amazing husband. In my downtime I’m usually spending time with my family, doing photography, building legos, playing video games, or crafting!
